Daniel Lawless
Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Engineering at Energous

Daniel Lawless joined Energous in 2018 and serves as the Company’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Engineering, responsible for spectrum, standards, testing and global approvals of all WattUp products. Mr. Lawless previously worked for 15 years at Broadcom Ltd, most recently as Director of Engineering, Global Operations, where he was responsible for Regulatory, Operations Engineering and NPI program management. Mr. Lawless has an extensive background in regulatory compliance, building regulatory teams, influencing standards organizations and leading approval campaigns for many first to market wireless products. He has served on the Board of Directors of the TCB Council and was Vice Chair of the WiFi Alliance Regulatory Task Group, driving policy changes and introducing new technologies. He is a contributing author in the Governance, Risk and Compliance Handbook: Removing Regulatory Barriers to Trade(Wiley, 2008). Mr. Lawless holds a BSEE from SJSU.


Paul Husted
Senior Director of Technology at Atmosic

Paul Husted is an expert in wireless systems, with over 20 years of experience developing low cost, low power, high volume consumer wireless chips and devices. Paul has been at Atmosic since early 2019, focused on forever battery and battery-free wireless solutions for IoT and consumer devices. Paul was an early employee at Atheros Communications, leading key WiFi/Bluetooth mobile chip development efforts. Prior to joining Atmosic, Paul was the wireless power and performance lead for Google Pixel. Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Boston University and a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley.


Joshua Smith
Zeutschel Professor in the Allen School of CSE & Dept of ECE at University of Washington

Joshua R. Smith is the Milton and Delia Zeutschel Professor, jointly appointed in the Allen School of Computer Science, and in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Washington, where he leads Sensor Systems Laboratory. His research focuses on inventing new sensor systems, devising new ways to power and communicate with them, and developing algorithms for using them. This research has applications in the domains of ubiquitous computing, robotics, medical devices and HCI. His group develops novel sensors for robotic manipulation, resonant wireless power transfer, and far-field wirelessly powered sensing platforms.


Sanjay Gupta, Moderator
President of AirFuel Alliance

Sanjay Gupta is an entrepreneurial technology executive experienced in bringing new technology to market and creating global standards necessary for interoperability and market adoption. Previously, Sanjay held positions as Vice President of Product Management and Development at Motorola, as well as a role as professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. Sanjay received his Ph.D. in Systems and an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Pennsylvania. and holds over 18 patents and has over 40 publications in archival journals and leading academic conferences.
